AccelaStudy was the very first language learning app in the App Store when it opened in June 2008. Starting with six language editions — Spanish, French, German, Italian, and Turkish — the product line eventually grew to over 120 editions across 18 languages, with 300+ separate app versions available simultaneously. All vocabulary content was translated by professors at Brigham Young University and recorded by professional voiceover artists.

Every word recorded by professional voiceover artists who were native speakers — including the same artist Mercedes used for their German television commercials.
Spaced Repetition
Version 1.4 introduced the first implementation of spaced repetition, optimizing review intervals based on how well you know each word.
Multi-Attribute Learning
Unlike simple front/back flashcards, AccelaStudy modeled multiple attributes of each vocabulary item — spelling, pronunciation, definition, and usage — testing each independently.
iPad App of the Week
AccelaStudy was featured by Apple multiple times, including in the television commercial used to introduce the iPad in China.
30+ Million Downloads
By 2015, AccelaStudy-powered applications had been downloaded over 30 million times across all editions.
Cloud Sync
The Renkara Cloud enabled progress sync between iPhone, iPad, and Mac, plus user-generated vocabulary stored in the cloud.
What Happened Next
Consolidated into AccelaStudy® Infinite in September 2018, which merged all 300+ versions into a single modern application.
